Godard’s debut film is a tribute to Humphrey Bogart and Hollywood’s “B movies.” It tells the story of a small-time crook who is ultimately betrayed to the police by his lover. The film is rife with stylistic deviations from convention, which were attributed to inexperience at the time and only later recognized as a deliberate artistic choice. Fellow directors François Truffaut (screenplay) and Claude Chabrol (technical advisor) also collaborated on this Nouvelle Vague classic.

Sound is provided via a personal headphone system. Disinfected headphones are available at the entrance. In case of inclement weather, the films will be shown in the Forum of the Bundeskunsthalle.
No outside food or drinks are permitted. The rooftop kiosk has delicious snacks and drinks available for you.
