A Cake for the President

During the Second Gulf War of 1990–91, a nine-year-old schoolgirl is chosen by lottery to bake a cake for the birthday celebration of the ruler Saddam Hussein. However, this proves to be a major problem, as food is scarce and very expensive. This autobiographically inspired blend of coming-of-age and family drama is told entirely from the girl’s perspective and creates an authentic atmosphere. The film won the Grand Prize for Best Debut Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

Films start at 8:30 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Sound is provided via a personal headphone system. Sanitized headphones are available at the entrance. In case of inclement weather, the films will be shown in the Forum of the Bundeskunsthalle.
No outside food or drinks are permitted. The rooftop kiosk offers delicious snacks and drinks.
