In the organizer's words:
A vibrant reflection on transformation, ritual, and sound poetry can be experienced in the revival of the performance “Baum” with its original cast. Spanish-German composer Maria de Alvear created it 25 years ago in collaboration with the percussion ensemble Drums of Chaos and singer Cora Schmeiser. Through the interplay of voice and drums, “Baum” explores the essence of the tree in eight “soundscapes.” The composer abstractly translates the customs of indigenous peoples into her own artistic cosmos. Hypnotic rhythmic patterns emerge from minimalistic, reduced seeds. Singer Cora Schmeiser describes the work as a “deeply moving, archaic soundscape.”
