His concerts are like happenings. It's wild and colorful on stage when the cornet player, singer and multi-instrumentalist Ben LaMar Gay gets going. His principle is: anything is possible. And it sounds accordingly: the pieces by the man from Chicago reflect pretty much all facets and achievements of black music. However, other influences also shimmer in them and mix with elements of blues, avant-garde jazz, funk or hip hop to create something that vibrates with energy and comes up with surprises every second.

Ben LaMar Gay, who grew up on Chicago's notorious Southside, is a one-of-a-kind artist who legendary Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker once described as one of his favorite musicians on the planet. Perhaps Parker likes the fact that Ben LaMar Gay remains so unpredictable in everything he does, that he likes to provoke and provoke creatively, that he doesn't deny himself anything. His CV is as exciting as his music: he has worked as a lecturer and radio presenter, helped lead the youngest AACM generation and lived in Brazil for a while. At home in Chicago, he played music with all the influential figures in the scene. Ben LaMar Gay, who presents his latest album Yowzers, has already performed on stage with Mike Reed, Greg Ward, Nicole Mitchell, McCaya McCraven and Jamie Branch.
