Best OFF FLINTA: Lady Bird
In the organizer's words:
Directed by Greta Gerwig
94 min. | US 2017 | FSK0
Original English version with German subtitles
Coming-of-age comedy/drama
The film centers on the self-proclaimed “Lady Bird” McPherson, who is spending her senior year of high school in Sacramento. Amid dreams of the future, friendships, and a complicated relationship with her mother, she searches for her own place in the world. Her experiences are shaped by the contradictions and longings of growing up, as well as the desire for self-determination and a fresh start.
In her coming-of-age film, director Greta Gerwig combines humorous observations with a precise portrayal of adolescent self-discovery. Gerwig also wrote the screenplay; *Lady Bird* is her first solo directorial feature film and was received with great enthusiasm.
We decided to screen this film because we already consider it a modern classic.
With our Best OFF FLINTA series, we aim to create a space at OFF Broadway where FLINTA directors receive special attention. Over the course of three months, we’ll focus on a specific theme, screening a selected film for you on the second Monday of every month. On July 13, we’ll kick off the “Best OFF Coming of Age” series!
FLINTA stands for women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender people.
