Coming-of-Age Horror/Body Horror

Justine, a young vegetarian, begins her studies at a veterinary college. As she tries to find her footing in her new environment, she experiences physical and emotional changes that challenge her previous sense of self and worldview.

In her coming-of-age horror film, director Julia Ducournau combines the themes of identity formation, physicality, and growing up with the stylistic elements of body horror. *Raw* is her first feature film, and Ducournau wrote the screenplay herself. The film premiered at the International Critics’ Week section of the Cannes Film Festival.

We decided to screen this film because coming of age can also be brutal.

With our Best OFF FLINTA series, we aim to create a space at OFF Broadway where FLINTA directors receive special attention.
