BILDUNGS|GESCHICHTEN. Lesung, Gespräch und Ausstellung mit Fikri Anıl Altıntaş und Studierenden der JLU

Entering university is a complex process of becoming a student and anything but a linear transition. This becoming is characterized by many challenges that are conditioned by origins and futures and their specific power relations. As part of the Culture Night, JLU student teachers will read from their diverse bildungs|geschichten.

The author Fikri Anıl Altıntaş will also be reading from his novels Zwischen uns liegt August and Im Morgen wächst ein Birnbaum. His works deal with questions of origin, social inequality and belonging. He talks about growing up between Central Hesse and Turkey, family relationships and the tensions between individual educational paths and social expectations. His texts combine the personal with an analysis of structural power relations and thus open up new perspectives on the concept of bildungs|geschichten.

Fikri Anıl Altıntaş (*1992 in Wetzlar) studied political science, ethnology and Eastern European studies and works as a political educator and freelance author. He writes and speaks about masculinity(ies), anti-feminism and the (de)construction of migrant, Muslim-Turkish masculinity in Germany. He is also a #HeForSheDeutschland ambassador for UN Women Germany.

The event will take place as part of the 2nd Giessen Culture Night in cooperation with the Department of History Didactics at Justus Liebig University Giessen and with the kind support of Sparkasse Giessen at the Campus & more branch of Sparkasse Giessen (Johannesstr. 3, 35390 Giessen). Hannah Van Reeth will moderate the reading part with Fikri Anıl Altıntaş. Free admission to the Kulturnacht, the recommended price is €10. Access to the venue is wheelchair accessible.
