Numerous perpetrator biographies are closely linked to the history of Munich, where the NSDAP was founded. New research on the subject will be presented at the event.
The infamous Gauleiter Adolf Wagner, who was also the Bavarian Minister of the Interior and Culture, will be among the Nazi elite. However, lesser-known cases will also be addressed, such as the Munich lawyer Max Frauendorfer: although he was involved in the deployment of mainly Jewish forced laborers in the Generalgouvernement after the invasion of Poland, he staged himself as a member of the resistance after 1945 and made a career as director of Allianz Versicherung.
Thomas Schlemmer, Wolfgang Proske and Brigitte Zuber will discuss how local historical research in particular can contribute to addressing the responsibility of broader sections of society, the many helpers and free riders of the Nazi regime. The evening will be moderated by Dirk Riedel (NS-Dokumentationszentrum München).
Thomas Schlemmer is a research associate at the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich and editor-in-chief of the Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte.
Wolfgang Proske is a graduate social scientist and history teacher and editor of the book series Täter - Helfer - Trittbrettfahrer.
Brigitte Zuber is an art teacher and historian and author of the biography of Adolf Wagner: Der Gauleiter: Das Amt Willkür.
