Contemporary East Africa#4 – modern Art from Ethiopia & Tanzania

In the organizer's words:

In the fall of 2017, the first group exhibition entitled "Contemporary East Africa" took place at the Cologne art gallery "Art of Buna e.V.". The following year, 2018, a second exhibition was initiated with "Contemporary East Africa #2" - a loose series was born. The series presents contemporary art from East Africa, on the pulse of the times, as it can be seen in the booming galleries of Addis Ababa, Kampala or Dar es Salaam. In this series, we have already shown works by artists from Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Kenya.

Art from Africa is still underrepresented in German galleries and museums. While the art and cultural scene in African cities is vibrant and flourishing, the European idea of African art is all too often still based on clichés from the past. With this series, we would like to offer an art-interested audience an insight into current developments in the creative scenes of major East African cities. The exhibition is complemented by a broad supporting program with film screenings, a multivision and live music.
