Panel discussion: Culture for everyone - Who owns the culture of tomorrow?

Culture is currently at a crossroads: empty coffers, outdated funding structures and growing social challenges require new approaches. Who decides which culture is funded? How can diversity, fairness and innovation be strengthened in cultural policy? And how can we ensure a vibrant cultural landscape for future generations?

These questions will be addressed in a panel discussion as part of the Denkarena discussion format with:

• Martina Pfister, Mayor for Culture, Citizen Services and Creative Industries, City of Heidelberg
• Thorsten Riehle, Mayor for Economy, Labor, Social Affairs and Culture, City of Mannheim
• Markus Dietze, Director of the Theater Koblenz
• Pamela Schobeß, political spokesperson for Livekomm, the federal association for clubs and festivals in Germany

halle02 and the Kulturbüro der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar GmbH are organizing a panel discussion on the future of culture in times of limited resources, inspired by the book Kultur: Wandel - Impulse für eine zukunftsweisende Kulturpraxis.

The debate about opening up and democratizing the cultural sector is not new: in 1979, Frankfurt cultural politician Hilmar Hoffmann published his visionary concept of "culture for all". He called for cultural offerings to be made accessible to broad sections of the population and for them to be seen not as the privilege of a few, but as a common good.

Over the years, the idea has evolved into a "culture FOR all" that focuses on active participation, co-creation and diversity in cultural practice. We are faced with the challenge of developing ideas for the future of culture in a changing society. Experts from politics, cultural institutions and the independent scene share their perspectives - discuss with us!

Denkarena

The Denkarena is a new discussion format that facilitates cultural policy debates. As a sister format to the Denkfest, the regional cultural symposium that takes place every two years, we promote discourse on art and cultural topics in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The next Denkfest will take place on October 8 and 9 in Landau.
