Pyotr Tchaikovsky Concertofor Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23
Camille Saint-Saëns *DanseMacabre*, Symphonic Poem, Op. 40
Pyotr Tchaikovsky: CapriccioItaliano, Op. 45

The FILUM Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1995 by Robert Wieland and has evolved from a chamber ensemble into a full-scale symphony orchestra. Today, it is known throughout the region for its stylistic breadth and diverse concert programs.

Michael Kuhn opens the evening with Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor. The pianist completed his concert exam with honors. Several first prizes, the Basel Business Promotion Award, and a scholarship from the European Piano Teachers Association mark his artistic career. His international activities include radio and CD recordings, world premieres, numerous orchestral concerts in Europe, Israel, Mexico, and the U.S., as well as regular jury assignments.

In the second piece, Saint-Saëns’s mysterious “Danse Macabre,” Lubov Selzer Niederer takes on the impressive violin solo. Born in Moscow, the violinist was accepted into the renowned Gnessin School for musically gifted children at the age of seven and later trained by Prof. Zakhar Bron—one of the most prominent violin pedagogues of our time. Her well-rounded education also included psychology, pedagogy, and conducting. For many years, she has shaped the regional music scene as concertmaster of the FILUM Symphony Orchestra and as a violin teacher at the Filderstadt Music School.

The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s richly colored *Capriccio Italien*. Together with its soloists, the FILUM Symphony Orchestra showcases its sonic diversity—a varied evening for all who appreciate great symphonic music.
