Sirius Quartet

The Sirius Quartet is one of the most internationally renowned ensembles for contemporary chamber music. The four musicians combine chamber-music precision with an improvisational ease rarely experienced in classical concert halls. Since their debut at New York’s legendary Knitting Factory, they have performed worldwide on major stages such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, the Beijing Music Festival, the Cologne Music Triennale, and Taiwan’s largest jazz festival.
The ensemble, whose members are both composers and performers, continually develops its own works and expands the sonic spectrum of the string quartet through unusual playing techniques, rousing improvisations, and modern grooves. Their programs blend avant-garde, jazz, post-rock, world music, and classical traditions, redefining the genre of chamber music.
With regular world premieres of works by leading composers and its own projects—such as the Progressive Chamber Music Festival in New York and Munich—the Sirius Quartet sets artistic standards and breaks new ground in contemporary chamber music. This concert demonstrates just how boundlessly diverse a string quartet can sound, balancing precision and freedom.
