The Life Story of Astor Piazzolla
Jasmin Kolberg Trio
Marimba & Vibraphone:Jasmin Kolberg
Accordion:Ulrich Schlumberger
Double Bass:Henrik Mumm
With its program *Between the Ages*, the Jasmin Kolberg Trio invites you on a musical journey that fascinatingly blends French Impressionism, Argentine melancholy, and European classical music. The focus is on Astor Piazzolla, whose eventful life takes the audience from Buenos Aires to New York and on to Europe—and whose Tango Nuevo had a lasting impact on music history.
Jasmin Kolberg, an internationally acclaimed marimba and vibraphone virtuoso, guides the audience through Piazzolla’s life with lively narration, weaving storytelling and music into a cohesive, atmospheric whole. Her instruments convey the warmth and poetry for which Kolberg is celebrated on concert stages across the U.S., Japan, South Africa, and all of Europe. Her training in Stuttgart, Paris, and New York, as well as inspiration from greats such as Gordon Stout, Keiko Abe, and Robyn Schulkowsky, have shaped her distinctive musical language.
Together with Ulrich Schlumberger on accordion and Henrik Mumm on double bass, Kolberg blends musical styles that, at first glance, seem unlikely to go together: Debussy’s colorful soundscape meets Bach’s clear lines, while traditional tangos blend with Piazzolla’s rhythmic precision and emotional intensity. In this way, the trio creates a musical narrative that delights classical music lovers as well as curious crossover fans.
