Kinkel is one of the most successful German authors.
1848: Resistance to princely rule and censorship forms in the German Confederation. In the midst of the revolutionary upheavals, two women meet: the penniless Susanne, who has taken on a risky assignment, and Louise Otto, a courageous writer and unwavering democrat. Together they fight for freedom, equality and self-determination.
In this gripping historical novel, Tanja Kinkel tells of a time of upheaval, of personal and political conflicts - and of how women raised their voices despite all the dangers. The revolution of 1848 may have failed, but it changed the country forever. A powerful portrait of two strong women and a tribute to the often overlooked contribution of women to the emergence of democracy - emotional, political and highly topical.
