Composed in a short time for himself as a soloist, Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22, begins unusually with a free piano solo.
A richly contrasting concerto unfolds, ranging from lyrical elegance to brilliant virtuosity, culminating in a spirited, dance-like finale. This is followed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”—a turning point in music history.
With this symphony, Beethoven broke with classical forms and created a work of unprecedented grandeur and expressiveness. Originally dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, the symphony tells a story of heroism, crisis, and renewal—most impressively, for example, in the famous funeral march of the second movement. A concert evening that unites contrasts: elegant virtuosity and a revolutionary musical language.
