Even composers of serious music occasionally feel the need to write lighter, more entertaining pieces. Sometimes for entirely practical reasons, such as financial worries; other times out of a deep connection to the folk music of their homeland.
The NKM is celebrating some of these composers at its annual fall concert this year. In addition to a few surprises, the program includes Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, Johannes Brahms’s Hungarian Dances, as well as music by Edvard Grieg and Sir Edward Elgar—including, of course, “Pomp and Circumstance.” The highlight of the evening is Bedřich Smetana’s “The Moldau.” We look forward to a colorful and highly varied concert!
