The Historical Archive with Rhenish Picture Archive invites you to an open day. The occasion is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Rheinisches Bildarchiv (RBA), which has performed a variety of tasks as the visual memory of the city of Cologne since 1926. In order to present these, various themed tours will provide exclusive insights into the work areas of the Rheinisches Bildarchiv and thus make the functioning of a modern image archive tangible.

This tour will give you a comprehensive insight into the day-to-day work of a modern picture archive. Based on the 100-year history of the institution, you will learn about the interplay between the individual work areas and find out why the Rheinisches Bildarchiv is referred to as a "producing archive". Based on the research possibilities in the reading room and the image production in the in-house studio and laboratory, we then present one of the most important work steps in the image archive: the path of the image from its acquisition to publication in the online database.
