A photographic legacy that was never intended to be published is being stylized as a sensational find. The pictures of the American nanny Vivian Maier (1926 to 2009) have become an integral part of the history of street photography. And rightly so?

This question is posed in two ways in "Finding Vivian Maier". The film not only tells the story of the photographs, but also that of their discoverer. The staging of the photographs in the documentary not only exemplifies the challenges of preserving and managing analog photographs, but also how the interest in reconstructing the person behind them can gain the upper hand.
