GAME OVER
D 1996 - 85' - DF - Director: Igor Zaritzki
15-year-old Moritz lives alone in a small town on the outskirts of East Berlin with his father, who runs a small gas station and often demands his son's help. His girlfriend Katja turns her back on him and goes out with another guy who impresses her with his moped and cocky remarks. Instead of going to school, Moritz prefers to spend his time in a dilapidated house, listening to music, playing violent computer games on his Gameboy and looking at old family photos - especially of his mother, who is said to have died in a car accident 10 years ago. But by chance he learns that she left the family back then and fled to Hamburg, where she lives with a new man. Under the pretext of a school trip, Moritz travels to her and confronts her with her past and her lies. Despite all the disappointments and setbacks that complicate his youthful self-discovery, Moritz finds a way to make sense of his life. "Game over": The parallel world of computer games is over.
