Joe Gillis (William Holden), an unsuccessful screenwriter, flees his creditors and ends up at the estate of former silent-film diva Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson). She lives in seclusion, lost in the glow of her memories, cared for only by her butler, Max. The diva dreams of a comeback and persuades Gillis to revise a script and turn it into a successful screenplay. Gillis stays in the isolated house and lets the smitten Norma support him. But the eccentricity of its strange inhabitants begins to wear on him, especially when he finds new hope for his career with a young, idealistic writer. The old, jealous diva doesn’t want to let him go, and the misfortune has long since begun. 

"heimkino." is a project in collaboration with Flugmodus GmbH, created to provide a home for the community of film and cinema lovers in the trendy Ehrenfeld neighborhood. As part of this new series, we bring classic films and lesser-known masterpieces back to the big screen every Wednesday. Each month is dedicated to a common overarching theme.
