The noise of the megacity bubbles between the monoliths of New York City - the city as a sounding engine, a stunted heartbeat like in Fritz Lang's "Metropolis". IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT find both beauty and terror in this grandiosity. With their new album "Goldstar", the masked trio continue their journey through urban and arcane soundscapes, inspired by the extremes of metal and gilded modernity. "New York City is the fuel," explains guitarist and singer Zachary Ezrin, who, together with Steve Blanco and Kenny Grohowski, has been pushing the boundaries of metal since the band was founded. After "Vile Luxury", "Alphaville" and "Spirit of Ecstasy", "Goldstar" focuses on more compact songwriting for the first time: tracks such as "Eye of Mars" and "Hotel Sphinx" combine virtuosity and experimentation. Shaped by two years of intensive touring with Behemoth, Carcass and Zeal & Ardor, the album opens up new sonic spaces - from North African Gnawa music to Brazilian Maracatu and architectural hymns à la "Lexington Delirium". Guest appearances by Thomas Haake (Meshuggah) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer) round off the production. Live, the trio remains an event: new masks, a theatrical stage concept and Bielak's detailed future-noir artwork characterize the "Goldstar" era. "We want to think metal further," says Ezrin.
