It's Makoto Again - WDR Big Band meets Makoto Ozone
In the organizer's words:
He sat at the Hammond organ for the first time at age two, began improvising at seven, and switched to the piano at twelve—music has been the centerpiece of pianist Makoto Ozone’s life for over 60 years. Born in Kobe, Japan, in 1961, he inherited his passion for jazz from his father, who also played the piano and organ, taught him, and took him on stage at an early age. After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ozone recorded his debut album with Gary Burton, followed by collaborations with Randy Brecker, Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis, and others. Ozone is also an accomplished classical pianist. In his music, he blurs musical boundaries and blends both soundscapes. Following their first joint project, “The Big Band World of Makoto Ozone,” in November 2023, Ozone is now returning to the WDR Big Band with new compositions and arrangements.
