A concert evening bridging Lviv and Prague, blending Ukrainian musical tradition with European classical music: The program centers on two significant piano trios by Vasyl Barvinsky and Antonín Dvořák.

Vasyl Barvinsky is considered one of the most important Ukrainian composers of the early 20th century. He studied in Prague and blended the European late-Romantic tradition with a distinctly Ukrainian musical language in his works. His life and work were deeply marked by Soviet repression: Barvinsky was arrested and sentenced to ten years in a labor camp; his manuscripts were destroyed, and his music disappeared from concert life for decades.

Antonín Dvořák was an important artistic role model for Barvinsky. In the piano trios of both composers, national musical idioms, folkloric elements, and the great European chamber music tradition come together.

This concert brings these two musical worlds into dialogue—and at the same time showcases music that, despite persecution and obscurity, has found its way back onto the stage.
