JESSE MCBRIDE (USA) FEAT. HENRI JERRATSCH TRIO (D)
At UNO, Jesse McBride studied jazz piano with Ellis Marsalis and developed a special relationship with the legendary producer, artist and educator Harold BaAste. "Mr. BaF" encouraged McBride to develop his own personal sound and continue the tradition of helping young musicians find their own voice. McBride took up BaAste's "Next Generation" project and has carried the torch since the elder statesman's passing in 2015. McBride and Next Generation perform in New Orleans, at WWOZ Piano Night and at trade shows, including headlining the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He is a member of the Black American Music Studies faculty at Tulane University and teaches master classes throughout the city.
Henri Jerratsch is an up-and-coming drummer, sideman and bandleader born and raised in Northern Germany. He has worked with many rhythm and blues, soul and jazz artists throughout Europe. His jazz studies at the University of Osnabrück led him to study at the University of New Orleans in 2022. Always inspired by the roots of Black American music, Jerratsch felt the need to learn more about the heartbeat, soul and reality of the music he plays with Europeans. After seeing and hearing Herlin Riley, Jason Marsalis, Shannon Powell, Johnny Vidacovich, Raymond Webber, Kerry "Fats" Hunter night after night, he understood the music on a different level after relying on records and video footage for a long time. During his time in the UN jazz program, Jerratsch and McBride crossed paths and a year after his return to Germany, Henri Jerratsch's trio is more than happy to invite Jesse McBride as a guest on piano for a few evenings in early July.
