Latin Night with Que Pasa at Joly’s Live Music Bar

I’ve been collaborating with singer Claudia Wandt for many years in the supreme art of musical dialogue—the duo. Claudia is a singer with a passion for tango and chanson, possessing an expressive, versatile voice capable of conveying a wide range of emotions. I enjoy showcasing her voice with my guitars and the looper. At the same time, I have plenty of freedom for my own improvisations, sounds, and rhythms. Since we don’t like to limit ourselves musically—or rather, we want to let our creativity run wild—we’ve named ourselves¡Que Pasa!, which means something like“What's happening!”

¡Que Pasa! evokes a classy jazz vibe, singer-songwriter elegance, cheerful-melancholic gypsy swing, the Rio de la Plata, and a longing for the South—and at times seems to be out of step with the times because they’re devoted to old classics, hits, and standards. In doing so, they draw from an endless musical treasure trove featuring, among others, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Hilde Knef, Katie Melua, Norah Jones, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Bob Marley, Sting, Melody Gardot, and Rebekka Bakken. Increasingly, their own compositions and songs are also being featured in their concerts.
