Historical events and processes are an important source of inspiration for poetry. The ballad, once so popular, no longer plays a major role; contemporary poetry is much more concerned with exploring resonant spaces, making references, and linking personal experiences to historical events. In the Poetry Lounge, Marcel Beyer, Daniela Danz, and Ulf Stolterfoht will read from their poetic works. Students from the University of Düsseldorf will ask them about their approach to historical poetry and discuss with them the significance of historical representations and the benefits and drawbacks of history for poetry.
