A Berlin big band embarks on a road trip to explore the infamous brass section of the seventies together with legendary musicians from Mali. The history of popular music has its roots in West Africa and particularly deep in Mali. In Berlin, a big band discovers the old vinyl records of the Rail Band or the Mystère Jazz de Tombouctou, whose fusion breathed an original soul. During the journey to the heroes of their own record collection, they meet old stars of the Malian big band era, follow the traces of the compositions and admire their idols on scuffed archive material. At jam sessions and concerts, the musicians from North and South get into conversation and approach the old pieces together, sometimes not without vociferous arguments about the correct beat, before finally recording a record in Salif Keita's studio in Bamako.
