NICA live: Into the 5th Dimension – guided by ANUNAKI TABLA feat. Andreas Völk, Kenn Hartwig, Teresa Coll, Leif Berger & Philip Zoubek

Anunaki Tabla, the record label founded by drummer, composer, and NICA artist Thomas Sauerborn, guitarist Andreas Völk, and bassist and Game Boy enthusiast Kenn Hartwig, grew out of an idea shared by close friends and fellow musicians. Five years later, it has evolved into a full-fledged sonic adventure with a mission: to promote niche music and provide it with a platform. With genre labels that are sometimes cryptic, sometimes humorous—such as “Alien Jazz,” “Quantum Rock,” or “Low-Current Electronica,” the trio focuses entirely on bringing together musicians from diverse backgrounds to push the boundaries of what jazz and improvised music can sound like. Not only in their musical practice, but also through the unique way they categorize their own music.

Openness and curiosity toward sound itself as an infinite means of expression—this energy shapes the sonic exploration of the bands on the roster of the label, which is based in the Cologne/Berlin axis. Improvisation at its core and an unwavering willingness to experiment align not only with the label’s vision but also with the concept behind Anunaki Tabla’s NICA live concert series: bringing together musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds in the Green Room to embark on a shared sonic journey of discovery.

Under the title “Into the 5th Dimension,” Anunaki Tabla presents two sets featuring different constellations of musicians, curated by Thomas Sauerborn. In the first set, former NICA artist and improviser Philip Zoubek (piano, synthesizer) will join forces with Anunaki founder Andreas Völk (Barth Audios, live sampling). In the second set, Anunaki founder Kenn Hartwig (Nintendo Game Boy), singer Teresa Coll, and former NICA artist and drummer Leif Berger will share the stage. In both lineups, different sonic worlds collide and merge into a single entity.
