In the organizer's words:
Tilda’s (Luna Wedler) days are strictly scheduled: studying, working at the supermarket checkout, swimming, taking care of her little sister Ida (Zoë Baier)—and on bad days, her mother (Laura Tonke) as well. The three of them live in the saddest house on Fröhlichstraße in a small town that Tilda hates. Her friends are long gone, living in Amsterdam or Berlin; only Tilda has stayed behind. Because someone has to be there for Ida, earn money, and take responsibility.
There are no fathers worth mentioning; her mother is an alcoholic. One day, however, things start to change: Tilda is offered a chance to pursue a Ph.D. in Berlin, and a future that promises freedom begins to take shape. And Viktor (Jannis Niewöhner) shows up—the older brother of Ivan, whom Tilda lost five years earlier. Viktor, who—just like her—always swims 22 laps. But just as Tilda is beginning to believe that everything might turn out all right, the situation at home spirals completely out of control…
Captivating and with a tone all its own, *22 Lanes* tells the story of two sisters who, with an unshakable belief in the beauty of life, fight back against shitty circumstances to set their lives on a different course. A film about growing up, love, and unconditional solidarity. A sensitive adaptation of Caroline Wahl’s bestselling and multi-award-winning debut novel.
As part of Cine k’s Open-Air Summer Cinema—July 30 through August 30, 2026. Doors open 45 minutes before the film starts; the film begins at dusk. Weather-proof: no cancellations due to bad weather; the film will be shown indoors instead.
