Open Air: IM SCHATTEN DES ORANGENBAUMS
In the organizer's words:
West Bank, 1988: When young Noor (Muhammad Abed Elrahman) is seriously injured during a protest, his mother Hanan (Cherien Dabis) begins to tell the moving story of her family.
The story takes us back to 1948, when Noor’s grandfather Sharif (Adam Bakri) refuses to leave Jaffa in order to protect his home and orange grove. But war, displacement, and imprisonment tear the family apart. Sharif’s son, Salim (Saleh Bakri), grows up in the shadow of his homeland, which he never truly knew. When Noor protests against Israeli soldiers decades later, fate seems to be repeating itself. But in the midst of the crisis, Hanan and Salim make a courageous decision that gives the family new hope—and promises a path to reconciliation.
When the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 2025, it received rave reviews and praise for its powerful and emotionally compelling storytelling. IN THE SHADOW OF THE ORANGE TREE was selected as Jordan’s entry for the 2026 OSCAR™ in the “Best International Feature Film” category.
As part of Cine k’s Open-Air Summer Cinema—July 30 through August 30, 2026. Doors open 45 minutes before the film starts; the film begins at dusk. Weather-proof: no cancellations due to bad weather; the film will be shown indoors instead.
