TheDecameron(from the Greek word for “ten-day work”) is a collection of100 novellas
The stories:To pass the time, the group elects a king or queen each day, who determines the theme of the day. Over the course of ten days, each person tells a story every day.
Significance:The famous poetGiovanni Boccaccio(1313–1375) and his magnum opus, theDecameron(written 1349–1353), elevated the novella to an art form and are considered the founders of European prose.
