Conversation with Olaf Sundermeyer and Frederik Schindler | Herder Publishing
The AfD has been gaining support for years and is increasingly shaping political debates—both in the Bundestag and at the state level. It is particularly well-established in the east, but its influence is also growing in the west. With an eye toward the upcoming elections in September, the question of how political majorities and social sentiment might continue to shift becomes all the more pressing.
Olaf Sundermeyer and Frederik Schindler have been closely following the rise of the AfD since its inception. In this conversation, the focus is on the dynamics behind the party’s electoral successes: on strategies for engaging voters—particularly younger ones—on the creation of its own interpretive frameworks, and on changes in everyday political life in areas where the AfD is strong.
Central to this discussion is also the question of how to address this development. What responses is the democratic public finding—and which ones are still missing?
