AI changes everything - but not automatically for the better, as Big Tech claims. Rather, AI can eliminate freedom, self-determination and democracy if left unchecked. That is why a defensive democracy must not leave the future to the alliance between Big Tech and the far right. This book aims to show how we can succeed in preserving an open future and thus an open society.

Matthias Pfeffer is a renowned journalist and filmmaker who worked for many years as managing director and editor-in-chief of Focus TV. Today, he is primarily dedicated to media philosophy and critically examines the effects of artificial intelligence on our democratic society. He is also the founder of the initiative for an independent European digital public space: "Council for European Public Space"

Jürgen Pfeffer is Professor of Computational Social Science at the Technical University of Munich, having previously conducted research at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. As a computer scientist, he specializes in the analysis of large amounts of data from social networks in order to understand human behaviour and the dissemination of information.
