Our present is rocked by crises and marked by disasters. The image of a “negative” future has long since overshadowed the vision of a “positive” future. We are haunted by the “question of a livable world.” Given all this, it’s all too easy to give in to resignation or even despair. Where, then, are “meaning,” “hope,” and “comfort”—concepts that have become highly precarious? Rescuing them is no easy task, but there are good reasons to rediscover them as categories of resistance against these dire circumstances.
