SALON LUITPOLD | Von Monroe zu Trump. Der lange Schatten amerikanischer Politik in Lateinamerika | Stefan Rinke | Verlag Herder
In the organizer's words:
Relations between the United States and Latin America have always been marked by tensions and asymmetries. Time and again, the United States has asserted its influence in North and South America—politically, economically, and militarily. Against the backdrop of recent developments, the question arises once more: What role does this influence play today, and how has it evolved historically?
Stefan Rinke traces the broad outlines of this history and examines various forms of American influence. In doing so, he reveals how profoundly these interventions have shaped political and social developments in Latin America and what repercussions this has had—and will continue to have—for the U.S. and Europe.
