Sons do Brasil feat. Guinga

The focus of this evening is Guinga, one of Brazil’s most important composers and guitarists. Born in 1950 in Madureira, Rio de Janeiro, he began composing at the age of 16 and developed a distinctive musical language that blends choro, samba, classical guitar, and contemporary harmony. Guinga worked as a guitarist with artists such as Clara Nunes, Beth Carvalho, Cartola, and João Nogueira; his compositions have been recorded by Elis Regina, Michel Legrand, Sérgio Mendes, Chico Buarque, and Ivan Lins, among others. Critics and musicians alike recognize him as one of the defining voices of contemporary Brazilian music. Together with Lucas Etcheverria and the Sons do Brasil Band—composed of students from the HfMT Hamburg and musicians from the Hamburg music scene—they are creating a concert that brings Guinga’s work to life, transcending generations and shedding light on it from a contemporary perspective.
