Talking to my Ancestors // AUSSTELLUNG
In the organizer's words:
"Talking to My Ancestors" is an exhibition that brings together six female artists with diaspora experiences. Through a variety of media—including painting, photography, textile art, video installation, and sculpture—the artists engage in a dialogue with the past and the stories of their ancestors. The exhibition explores how family narratives, cultural traditions, and inherited memories shape and transform identity in the diaspora.
The works are personal testimonies and, at the same time, a reflection on belonging, loss, conflict, and the continuity of culture across generations. The exhibition views the works as a nonverbal practice. “Talking to my Ancestors” challenges linear historiography and instead focuses on the fragmentation and recomposition of memory. Engaging with one’s ancestors can give rise to perspectives relevant to the present for both individual and collective identity.
The exhibition, curated by kanax4.life, is part of the collaborative project “Zeit für Geschichten” (Time for Stories) by Kulturbunker Köln-Mülheim e.V., funded by the Diversity Fund NRW.
