Literature can do what urban development debates and sociology seminars cannot: make a place audible from the inside. Not as a problem district, not as a gentrification project, but as a lived life.
Maryam Aras and Selim Özdogan read from their texts about Cologne-Mülheim - and make it clear that the stories of this district have long been literature. Great, stubborn, closely observing literature about Mülheim and its people, who sometimes forgot to leave and sometimes consciously made the district their own.
Where, if not in the Kulturbunker, the oldest cultural venue in the Veedel? The stories are there. They just need space.
