TAMIKREST European-Tour

The legendary Saharan rock band Tamikrest was founded in 2006 by Ousmane Ag Mossa, Cheikh Ag Tiglia and Aghaly Ag Mohamedine in Tinzawaten on the border between Algeria and Mali. Inspired by the musical heritage of Tinariwen and driven by the desire to make the oppressed voice of the Kel Tamasheq (Tuareg) people heard, the group quickly made a name for itself.

After their Kampnagel concerts in 2013 and 2017, Tamikrest are now coming back to Hamburg to present their album "ASSIKEL", which will be released in May: The sixth studio album - "Assikel" means "journey" in Tamaschek - was recorded live on analog tape and sounds correspondingly immediate and unfiltered. By turns intimate, raw and deeply atmospheric, it weaves electric and acoustic guitars, lap steel, dub bass and hand percussion into songs that range from ishumar rock'n'roll to hypnotic folk meditations. Always at the center: Ousmane's voice and his lyrics about uprooting, resistance and longing - a reflection of the reality of many Kel Tamasheq, who have been forced to leave their homeland in northern Mali for years.

After numerous tours through Europe, Africa, North and South America, Japan, South Korea and Australia, Tamikrest will show in this concert how the full power of their music unfolds live - with trance-like grooves, spiraling guitars and vocals that slowly transform into collective ecstasy.
