the bottomline | NOT THE SURFACE
In the organizer's words:
“A brilliant duo, highly talented both musically and technically. ‘the bottomline’
completely won over the audience.” (Bernd Schöneck | Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger)
Music as a philosophical exploration of sound—of what defines us and
perceived as a language that has truly connected us since time immemorial. Franzis Lating
(vocals, keys, synth) and Johannes Elia Nuß (drums, synth) create deeply moving, captivating sonic poetry in which they neither shy away from risky adventures nor fail to convey a familiar, comforting warmth. In doing so, they emphasize that there are no clear-cut boundaries at the outer edges of various genres and blend elements from jazz, classical music, electronic music, and even catchy passages typically found in pop into something new that you simply can’t get enough of.
the bottomline are the sound architects of remarkably extraordinary
song structures that, like theatrical dramas or sensual love letters to life,
meandering between our emotional worlds.
With their new album NOT THE SURFACE (releasing October 23, 2026, on the Munich-based label
enja & yellowbird records), they explore the absurdities of the present day, as well as the necessity of self-worth, empowerment, and a deep belief in love—and the resulting hope for genuine change that includes everyone. Their virtuoso live performances allow everyday life to fade into the background for a moment. Critics and audiences alike celebrate the duo.
