We are a curious team committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. At our cultural center, we welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, and ways of life, and strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome and respected. Through our events and activities, we not only promote cultural exchange and creative expression, but also actively advocate for political, democratic, and cultural education. We believe that art and culture possess transformative powers that can help break down prejudices, foster understanding, and strengthen communities—for the city of Soest, the district, and everyone who finds their way to us.

The Kulturhaus Alter Schlachthof is not only one of the region’s most important cultural institutions but also a central “third place” in Soest. With over 200 cultural events per year and a daily film program, we offer a wide range of cultural experiences. In addition, we provide space for independent activities and a wide variety of courses. Workshops, group meetings, initiatives, and clubs fill the historic rooms of the Alter Schlachthof Cultural Center with life every day.

As a sociocultural center, we focus on interdisciplinary projects and innovative event formats. Major events such as our popular flea markets, the “Weihnachts-Quartier,” and the legendary “Soester-Sommer” enrich our program and provide special highlights.

Our focus is on democracy education, inclusion, diversity, accessibility, and professional cultural work. Through this approach, we make an important contribution to the social and cultural development of the city of Soest.

After the municipal slaughterhouse closed in 1989,the entire sitewas transformed into a vibrant cultural center. We have been open to the public since April 29, 1993.

The Alter Schlachthof Cultural Centeris centrally located, just a ten-minute walk from City Hall, and spans approximately 8,000 square meters. The four buildings offer a usable area of about 2,500 square meters, and the walkways between the buildings are covered over a distance of about 1,000 square meters. Nearly all of the spaces are designed to be accessible.
