Thomas Freitag brings his new show to a close. For the dreams of the future that Thomas, a child of the postwar era, once had have since turned into nightmares—and the anger this stirs in him does not leave him unmoved. With his immense acting talent, his experience, and his age, he takes the audience by the hand and leads them on his “retreat across the mines of the plain.” When he acts like a monkey in a Kafkaesque manner, it’s only because he wants to confront the seriousness of life with the cheerfulness of art.
