Ukulele Death Squad
In the organizer's words:
Ukulele: Flamenco, Ska, Folk, Jazz, Pop, and Rock
The Ukulele Death Squad is a high-energy, seven-piece folk band with Tarantino-inspired influences from Adelaide, Australia. Their unconventional approach to the ukulele has captivated audiences worldwide since their formation in 2017. Their debut performances in Adelaide and at the Edinburgh Fringe earned them the award for Best Music Act at the Adelaide Fringe (2018).
Their eclectic music draws from various genres: flamenco, ska, folk, jazz, pop, and rock—with a healthy dose of dark humor. They combine “hardcore” ukulele with rich vocal harmonies, stomping rhythms, outrageous solos, and sensual saxophone.
The Adelaide-based group’s live shows are so raw that they shatter not only strings but also ukuleles. With a punk-rock attitude and a serious demeanor, The Ukulele Death Squad is embarking on a long-awaited post-pandemic tour of Australia and Europe in 2023 with new members, new music, and the same kind of chaos that has earned them critical acclaim.
“It’s like Tarantino met a traveling mariachi band and injected them with the punk ethos of The Saints, adding flashes of folk and flamenco. World music has never sounded this funky”—Scenestr Magazine.
