After years of uncertainty and involuntary exile, Gambian Siaka and his wife Victoria have returned to their "home country" Austria to build a stable existence and start a family. For over a year, Ivette Löcker accompanies the couple, whose longing for carefree love and a sense of arrival is not fulfilled without resistance. They have to fight their way through the bureaucratic jungle in order to stay together. Victoria tries to find her way back to a "normal" life as a graphic designer, while Siaka's precarious job situation still stands in the way of real participation and acceptance. Both invest a large part of their energies in the realization of their shared utopia, but cultural differences remain significant, social structures are immovable and their own history cannot be shaken off, nor can traditions. Siaka is only in his mid-thirties and already exhausted by life, by the challenges that stand in the way of him and his relationship every day. And he is tired of keeping quiet about his pain. Although a new phase in his life is already looming ahead of him, Siaka is haunted by traumas from the past. In a central scene, he discusses with Victoria the urgent need to share experiences of hardship, discrimination and racism in front of the camera in order to give visibility to her personal reality, but also to that of many others. Victoria wants this too, but she also wants the positive aspects of their relationship to have a future.
