VERNISSAGE/KAIROS-SETSUNA 刹那 – ZWEITE VERNISSAGE: KAIROS
In the organizer's words:
PAINTINGS BY EDITH HULTZSCH
INK PAINTINGS BY RENÉ BÖLL
The concept explores the theme ofKAIROS – Setsuna: “Here and Now”from various cultural perspectives of the West and the East.
It consists of three distinct cultural events:
- two related exhibitions
- a reading
- two concerts
The termKairosoriginates from ancient Greek philosophy and refers not simply to the passage of time, but to the meaningful, decisive moment. It stands for a moment of immediate perception that arises even before conscious reflection.
The French philosopherMaurice Merleau-Pontydescribed this level as a pre-reflective physicality of the human being. Using the example ofPaul Cézanne’spaintings, he demonstrated that art can make visible a reality that exists even before language and concepts.
In the East, a similar concept is found in the term“setsuna”(刹那), which originally stems from Buddhism. It refers to an infinitely brief moment and, at the same time, points to the transience of all things: Nothing remains unchanged; every moment is in a state of constant flux.
In ink painting, which is often described as abstract, artists attempt to capture the moment symbolically.
The project combines the Western idea of“Kairos”with the Eastern concept of“Setsuna”and explores the moment as a shared human experience.
