The viola is the instrument closest to the human voice. Its range corresponds to that of the human chest voice—which is why the warm sound of the viola and the human voice harmonize so perfectly. It is therefore somewhat surprising that there isn’t a much larger repertoire for this unique pairing, which complements each other so well. Some of the most beautiful works for this combination are featured on the program for this gallery concert. Audiences can look forward not only to the extraordinary lineup,
but also to mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert and Andreas Willwohl, principal violist of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra—both of whom are making their debut with the IHWA—as well as pianist Marcelo Amaral.
