About Walden
The festival for contemporary music, sound and performance art will take place for the fifth time on 19.07.2025 from 2 p.m. on the Künstlerhof Frohnau and the sand strip behind it. Under this year's title Walden: Howl, based on the poem of the same name by Allen Ginsberg, the event invites local and international artists to come together in community.
At a time when diversity is increasingly being marginalized and spaces in between are coming under pressure, we need places where we can come together - in connection, not in separation.
The Walden Festival is such a place: a day in the forest where voices are not isolated, but rather raised together. A wake-up call, a departure, a call to battle - for what connects us. For alliances that create resilience. For rituals that remind us of who we are and who we can be together.
Between forest and wilderness, on the edge of Berlin, runs an open strip of sand - remnants of the former "death strip", criss-crossed by traces of history. Artists shape the forest and the strip of sand into a resonating body and use it as a stage. In performances, concerts, talks and installations, the artists create a space for things that do not need to be explained in order to have an impact. Through performative, musical and participatory contributions, Walden V: Howl forges associative links between historical heritage and pressing contemporary issues and calls for further forms of narrative.
pleads for further forms of narrative and perception that meet the other and the different with openness and understand the forest as a place for interdependence and cohesion, permanence and resilience. A choreography of connectedness, a sound of vulnerability and strength.
