In the organizer's words:

Knowledge at 11: A Sea of Numbers – How We Can Use Computer Models to Study the Ocean’s Impact on the Climate

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Nils Brüggemann

In his lecture, Nils Brüggemann will demonstrate how the ocean can be simulated using large supercomputers. He will describe what a so-called ocean model consists of and how it fits into even more complex Earth system models. The ZMT researcher demonstrates how such coupled Earth system models can be used to investigate the ocean’s influence on a wide variety of aspects of the climate system. Using tropical cyclones as an example, he will illustrate the role the ocean plays in the interactions between the ocean, the atmosphere, and biogeochemistry. Of course, there are still significant challenges today in developing and using increasingly sophisticated models—Nils Brüggemann will provide insight into current research and present innovative approaches.

💡“Wissen um 11,” the science matinee in Bremen, where exciting and current topics from the world of science are presented every Saturday at 11 a.m. in thirty-minute sessions and are occasionally filmed and published on our YouTube channel. Free admission.
