The "Foundation Gerhart Hauptmann House. Deutsch-osteuropäisches Forum" is a cultural, educational and information center and contact for people and institutions with an interest in Eastern European regions. The cultural program includes lectures, exhibitions, readings, film screenings, theater and music events as well as study trips to East-Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe. Offers in the field of school and university cooperation as well as extracurricular activities in the field of youth education are a special focus of the foundation's activities. Guests from Germany and abroad gladly use the foundation's premises as a conference and meeting place. The in-house library houses around 90,000 media on the history and culture of the Germans throughout Eastern Europe and is open to all interested visitors. The foundation also owns an artotheque with a collection of East German art that is unique in Germany.
