In the organizer's words:
A LIFE WITHOUT PUNK celebrates 50 years of punk. This series of events is dedicated to the formative years of punk and brings together key figures from England and Germany to reflect on, celebrate, and carry forward the punk phenomenon and new music.

In 1976, punk changed the world.
Nuclear arms race and the Cold War defined the global political landscape; tensions were running high everywhere. Widespread economic discontent in Great Britain and a lack of prospects for young people, workers, and students created an explosive mix. It was only a matter of time before the next big explosion happened.
The first subcultural scenes began to form, rooted in a jarring mix of protest and provocation. Punk became the beacon of resistance. Old traditions were cast aside; from then on, hair was worn in colorful, unconventional, and spiky styles.
There was a need for new music, new songs, new messages—modern, world-changing, and stirring. It was the perfect time for a radically new sound.
Curtain up on 1977—punk finally exploded and was on everyone’s lips. Young people danced to the beat of the best music, and groundbreaking debut albums were released.

Fifty years later, A LIFE WITHOUT PUNK is touring six German cities with rotating ensembles and often stops at venues from back then to host a variety of evenings! Look forward to special guests like Alexander Hacke, a pop-up photo exhibition by Sabine Schwabroh, and projections by Christian Baumjohann, Archiv B.
